Old Baraboo Inn, located in Baraboo Wisconsin, has quite a bit of its own notoriety along with stories steeped in history. Once used by a bustling community with access near the main railroad system for many this was the hub for action, transportation, importing and exporting of goods, lumber and many other materials. The Old Baraboo Inn was many things in its hay day; brewery, brothel, tavern, eatery. Typical western shoot-outs occurred there in a certain era. Many spirits are reported as still haunting the place. We were very eager to investigate this place. Currently a bar and grill with rental units above the building, patrons and tenants alike report odd activity. One of the ladies of the night which had bled to death is said to still walk down a staircase which is no longer there due to remodeling. She also is said to appear when a certain song is played on the juke box. We did find out that it isn't the song that she likes but the number of the CD on the juke box that is relevant. It coincides with the date of their death. A cowboy is said to appear to certain people at certain times and supposedly has been recorded on audio as EVP's, even with a southern drawl. We brought our entire arsenal of equipment to either experience some of the claims or debunk them. Although hard to debunk apparitions, it was easily seen right away that the dozens of mirrors and other reflective surfaces in the building could cast shadows and reflections anywhere in the building making you think you may have seen something. We were unable to capture anything in photos or on audio but several of us did have some personal experiences there of being tapped on the top of our heads on numerous occasions throughout the night. It is actually a really neat feeling and left little doubt that we were being visited by someone from "the other side". At least that is my opinion. I cannot speak for the rest of the team. Upon leaving the building early the next morning, we heard some banging of pots and pans or something coming from the kitchen area. We could not prove or disprove what it was, but we all heard it, went to check on it and nothing was out of place. We can definitely say the food was some of the best we have tasted in a bar and grill. We look forward to going back just to eat some of the blackened burgers and steak the Inn offers. So if you are ever in Baraboo Wisconsin, go to the Old Baraboo Inn, better known as OBI and stop in for a visit and listen to B.C. tell you the many stories and activity of the place.
